Richard’s lifelong love of plants has taken him from world-renowned nurseries and innovative garden centers to broadcasting, writing and creating products that make gardening feel simpler and more rewarding.

ROOTED IN EXPERIENCE
Grounded in horticulture.
After studying biology at Southampton University, Richard began his horticultural career at Hillier Nurseries, where working alongside exceptional plantspeople deepened his passion for plants.
Roles at Fisons and Notcutts broadened his understanding of plant care, fertilizers and garden retail. He later helped establish innovative garden centers around London—including a training project that supported long-term unemployed young people into work.

Richard launched Flower Power Premium Plant Food in the UK in 2007 to help gardeners grow wonderful flowers, fruit and vegetables with a straightforward, professionally formulated feed.
Blossom Booster is the name US gardeners know. The branding is different, but Richard’s aim remains the same: make high-quality plant nutrition simple to understand and easy to use.

The garden industry, united for children’s hospices.
In 1998 Richard founded Greenfingers Charity, bringing people from across horticulture together to create inspiring therapeutic gardens for children and families spending time in hospices.
His work with the charity was recognized in 2024, when he was awarded an MBE for services to children’s hospices.
